My mentor has a presentation on March 14th and she asked me to help her put the presentation together and find engaging videos. While doing this I learned a lot about cancer genetics and watched numerous videos and Ted Talks that explained different perspectives and subfields within cancer genetics. I also learned a lot about how to educate patients and the general public with interesting and engaging videos. My mentor and I discussed topics and ideas that are relevant to the general public and topics and details that are difficult to teach and far to complex for patient understanding. I learned a lot about patient communication and presentation this week while researching. I presented my reflection speech and looked over the video. I think I have improved a lot but I still need to work on my body language. I noticed that I swayed a lot and used very repetitive hand movements. For our next presentation I want to focus on my body movements and the continuity in my speech. I tried to have a theme throughout my speech but it didn’t come across very well so I would like to find a new idea for FPN. My goal for next week is to create a list of specific cancers and disorders to show to my mentor for my final product.
